NATURAL IDENTITY - UPLIFTING BLACK VOICES IN THE JOURNEY TO FIND COMMUNITY AND EMBRACE NATURAL BEAUTY
Getting black hair done is about more than looking good (although that’s undeniable). It’s about finding that space and community that feels like home and lets you embrace your natural identity.
We teamed up with The Natural Nation, a black hair salon in Amsterdam, run by Anoeska Schmidt to create a series of genuinely candid portraits of the Natural Nation community, that capture them as individuals and their afro hair journey.
Our goal for this project is to tell stories specifically about black hair and culture. We want to uplift black voices and experiences from everyday people that have found their community and home in and around Amsterdam.
The Natural Identity Project was brought to life by Jennifer Grube and Caitlin McCarthy. We are two friends and creative professionals that came together to tell stories that come from a place of true curiosity.
We want to spotlight the local communities and authentic businesses that make Amsterdam unique through photography & writing.
